Hi Serge
Thanks a lot for a great event. I had fantastic time yesterday and I was amazed by organization how smooth everything goes. Road, river, volunteers etc. I must admit I felt great during whole race and congrats to all competitors.
I just got back to HK.
Thanks again for great event.
All the best
Michal

HI Serge,
I just wanted to drop you a line and say thank you for all your help at the weekend. You and your team were fantastic and so helpful. The race was impressively well run and organized. I have competed in races in Europe, the UK and Hong Kong and this is one of the best managed I have been too. I think your team had a lot to do with it, because of their friendliness and willingness to help, so please pass on my thanks.
I've attached a race report that I have written, mainly for my club here in Hong Kong, so please feel free to use it, and I am happy for it to be edited. My photos are also up on face book which you can use if you want any of them for pr purposes.
I have very few criticisms, for us, it was exactly what we wanted. The hotel was fine, although others may prefer something a bit more luxurious, so it may be worth putting some suggestions in the accommodation section for different types of accommodation and distance to venue. I had never been to Bangkok before so had no idea where to stay, what hotels were like etc. If you do get more overseas visitors, then having shuttle buses from a select number of recommended hotels to the venue would make things very easy (although I appreciate the logistics are more challenging) and you could charge a small fee. We preferred to cycle behind the bus for a warm up, which is another option, although without the bus, we would have been clueless how to get there.
The other thing I struggled with, and perhaps because it is not common practice in Asia, is finding CO2 gas canisters. Many people use these when they puncture but you can't fly with them. The bike store did get them for me, but by the time I came out the briefing and pasta party they had left. Luckily I didn't puncture but it would have been race over if I had. It may be worth advising that getting CO2 canisters might not be possible so athletes need to consider bringing small hand pumps.
The last thing is that the water station on the bike was almost in the wrong place - I missed it first time round and was concentrating on steering the narrower road section, avoiding people and going from light to dark. It might be worth having the drink station either after the turn around point when people are still going slow, or at the other end of the course after the turn around point. I ran out of liquid so having a drink station 1/4 and 3/4 of the way through the race would have been better as I missed the half way drink station.
Other than that, it was a fantastic race and you and your team did a brilliant job. I will definitely recommend it to people here, and hopefully get more people coming over next year.
Many thanks
